CMA CGM acquires FedEx Supply Chain

The French shipping group CMA CGM announced a historic market operation on July 1, 2026. Indeed, the company acquired FedEx Supply Chain for 1.4 billion USD. Consequently, this strategic move strengthens the group’s presence in the North American logistics sector. However, the agreement does not cover the entire FedEx group. The transaction focuses exclusively on the 3PL branch that handles warehouses, inventories, and returns in the United States.

The operation will officially close by the end of 2026, following the usual antitrust approvals. Thanks to this agreement, CMA CGM will secure a network of 240 sites and 150 warehouses in the United States. Furthermore, both companies signed a ten-year commercial partnership. Under this 3.5 billion USD pact, CMA CGM will become FedEx’s preferred ocean carrier.

The global expansion plan of CEVA Logistics

This acquisition will triple the North American footprint of CEVA Logistics, the French group’s subsidiary. In recent years, CEVA followed a highly aggressive global expansion path. For instance, in December 2025, the company took over Italy’s Fagioli Group to boost its project logistics. Previously, the firm bought Borusan Tedarik in Turkey and integrated GEFCO to lead the finished vehicle logistics sector.

Currently, CEVA’s North American division is preparing for a deep structural transformation. The company will fully absorb FedEx Supply Chain’s employees and facilities. Therefore, this union will create a highly significant continental logistics hub. The unification of digital platforms will optimize information flows across maritime, air, and overland shipments.

Integration and the future of end-to-end logistics

On the organizational level, managers will soon launch a restructuring of management and operational functions. The main goal is to align processes with CEVA’s global standards. Thanks to this entry into the US contract logistics market, the company will reduce its reliance on cyclical sectors like automotive. As a result, the client portfolio will be much more diversified and resilient.

Looking ahead, the acquisition marks a decisive step in CMA CGM’s vertical integration strategy. The shipping line aims to become a global end-to-end logistics operator, from the vessel to the warehouse floor. Finally, this investment will drive the logistics sector’s transition toward more digital, interconnected, and sustainable business models.
