The European Logistics Observatory is Born: A New Benchmark for European Logistics

The European Logistics Observatory (ELO) has officially data-started. This is a major initiative promoted by the Contract Logistics Monitor of Politecnico di Milano, in close collaboration with the European Technology Platform ALICE.

Specifically, the upcoming research activities will focus on the most relevant topics for the sector. Among the main subjects covered, we find:

• The capacity and efficiency of transport systems;
• The growing shortage of specialized labor;
• The regulatory and operational differences between various national markets;
• The strategies adopted by companies to face global challenges.

In addition, the team will pay special attention to technological innovation and the evolution of startups in the sector. The research will also analyze the outcomes of major European projects alongside the opportunities that artificial intelligence offers to logistics.

Consequently, to achieve these goals, the work program will follow a well-defined annual cycle. This journey includes continuous research activities, workshops in different European countries, and a final conference to share the results with the entire logistics community.

Goals and Perspectives of the European Logistics Observatory

Therefore, the primary goal is to transform the insights gathered into concrete recommendations. Through this approach, the observatory will support both businesses and European institutions in defining future innovation and development policies for the sector.

Moreover, an expert team composed of Damiano Frosi, Alberto Curnis, Fernando Liesa, and Andrea Condotta leads the project. Under their guidance, the ELO aims to become a privileged observer of continental market evolutions. The ultimate objective is to help strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of the European supply chain within an increasingly complex and interconnected economic context.
