Gianluigi Aponte’s MSC group will take over the Wärtsilä plant in Bagnoli della Rosandra, which the Finnish multinational had decided to close. The agreement was announced by Aponte himself in Genoa. MSC will acquire the plant for a symbolic euro and undertakes to re-employ all 300 employees currently in surplus. Furthermore, the company also plans to increase employment in the future.
The Trieste plant will be reconverted to the production of railway wagons, a strategic sector for MSC that controls Medway, a railway company present in Italy and several European countries. Furthermore, MSC recently acquired 51% of Italo, the second Italian high-speed rail operator, to develop rail freight transport.
The agreement between MSC and Wärtsilä is a positive signal for the Italian industrial fabric and demonstrates investor’s confidence in our country.
